Jeffrey Harris

Jeffrey Harris joined the Alliance to Save Energy in September 2006 as Vice President for Programs, following 25 years as a staff scientist, group leader, and head of the Washington DC Office of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His areas of interest include U.S. and international energy efficiency policy in the utility and government sectors, energy use in buildings, market transformation, and policy-oriented behavioral studies. At the Alliance, Harris oversees the buildings and utilities, industrial, and international programs; participates in policy development and advocacy for energy efficiency legislation, appliance standards, and building codes; and provides technical support to the US government's Federal Energy Management Program. Harris began his career in energy efficiency with the California Energy Commission in 1975, as a program manager and then Deputy Division Chief for Conservation. He served on detail at the US Department of Energy from 1990 to 1993, as senior assistant to the deputy assistant secretary for Building Technologies. Harris has an undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford (1969) and a master's degree in urban and regional planning from the University of California, Berkeley (1973).

Mr. Bernstein is the Executive Director of LONMARK International. In this role, he is responsible for the direction and activity of LONMARK worldwide and works directly with the regional affiliates, LMI staff, and the membership to continue developing LON open standards, provide educational programs, and grow the presence in the market. He is responsible for the LonMark Magazine publication, LonMark Integrator Certification Testing Program, and LonMark Sessions worldwide educational seminar tour.
He has spent the last 14 years with Echelon Corporation in a variety of roles focusing on control systems in building automation, transportation, industrial process control, and home automation. Most recently Ron was the Channel Manager for Echelon's integration business, focusing on network integration in the buildings market with LonWorks. Ron is a founding board member and prior Vice Chairman of LonMark Americas, Ron has been the LonMark Education Committee Chair, where he worked with a team to help people understand how to successfully implement open building control systems.
Ron has extensive experience in the architecture, specification, and integration of open, interoperable, multi-vendor control systems. He has helped organizations such as the Army Corps, NYC Schools, Rice University, Stanford University, Bank of America, The Limited, and hundreds of others define the foundation for energy cost savings through system integration using LonWorks as the core of an open, interoperable system architecture. Ron has given lectures around the world on the topic of building controls, open systems, master planning, energy savings, and intelligent buildings initiatives.
Ron has been a staff instructor for the APPA Institute of Higher Educational Facility Managers teaching classes on building integration and efficiency. He is an adviser to Carnegie Mellon University’s Architecture Department’s projects on building energy efficiency. His guest lecturing history includes ASME, ASHRAE, BOMA, CSI, SAE, LonWorld, BuilConn, RealComm, Georgetown Univ., Carnegie Mellon Univ., Boston Univ., Duke University, Army Corps of Engineers, and many others. He is a published author with articles appearing in a variety of industry trade publications. He is the Editor in Chief of LonMark Magazine.
Prior to Echelon, Ron was an engineer and manager for Sharp Microelectronics' Digital Image Processing Group focusing on automation and control systems for process and industrial controls. Prior to that, he spent 7 years as an engineer in the robotics, image processing, and the automation industry.
Ron holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineer from Carnegie Mellon University and two Masters Degrees in varying fields of psychology. He currently resides in San Diego, CA.

Patrick Hogan

Patrick Hogan received a First Class Honors degree in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, England and a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, England specializing in analytical methods for magnetic resonance imaging.
As a researcher for the world’s largest independent immunoassay company Dr Hogan developed the world’s first commercial scale nicotine assay and other drugs of abuse biofluid analysis kits. Instrument design, application chemistry and field sales were the main roles for Patrick while at Mettler Toledo’s analytical instrumentation division in Europe; main achievements were in developing new chemical methods for process quality control and being an integral design team member for a line of new automated robotic titration systems and ergonomic portable pH meters.
Hogan serves in a liaison role with Honeywell’s Automated Control Solutions group to integrate gas detection instrumentation equipment with security, surveillance and other critical automated building systems. He is a strong proponent of intelligent building design and has been at the forefront at the company’s push to bring Honeywell’s CO wireless gas detection and CO2/temperature/humidity sensing equipment to the building industry. At the helm of developing Honeywell’s on-demand ventilation product synergies and integration with building communication protocols, Hogan is busy defining the values of a more energy efficient, safer and comfortable building environments for occupants and workers.

Mark Jewell has spent 22 years in commercial real estate and almost 15 years in energy efficiency. For the last 6 years, his focus has been on creating value for large energy users and for the utilities and vendors that serve them.RealWinWin’s national accounts alone represents more than 700 million sq ft of building floor space.
Prior to RealWInWin’s inception, Mark was founder and president of EEFG, an energy-efficiency consulting firm that designed energy-saving improvements for more than 350 buildings. In the mid-1990’s, EEFG provided auditing, specification and project management services for the city of Philadelphia’s retrofit of more than 4 million sq ft of city-owned and operated buildings, a project that became the country’s 2 nd largest municipal lighting program, earning the city an EPA Green Lights Partner of the Year Award in 1998.
Mark also worked closely with the US Environmental Protection Agency to help create and promote the Energy Star Buildings Program of Commercial Real Estate, a voluntary pollution-prevention initiative that has since been embraced by more than 4 billion sq ft of income-producing office buildings. Mark’s team helped design and promote QuikScope, EPA’s flagship software tool for allocating the coast and benefits of energy-saving projects in tenant/landlord settings. His team also tested and promoted the EPA’s energy performance benchmarking tools. Working in support of EPA, Mark personally recruited building owners and managers representing more than 2 billion sq ft of commercial properties into Energy Star.
Earlier in his career, Mark served as Senior VP for a major commercial real estate investment firm that owned and operated 2 million sq ft of commercial property on the West Coast.
Mark received his BS in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania where he studied real estate, finance & related disciplines.

Peter Kelly-Detwiler

Peter Kelly-Detwiler is Senior Vice President of Energy Technology Services for Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG). He and his company-wide team oversee the integration of efficiency technologies and applications which help customers better manage their total energy bills and create optimal energy solutions. His current focus is Constellation’s advanced load response initiative which will support the development of thousands of megawatts of load response among the company’s North American customer base.
He joined New Energy Ventures – the precursor to Constellation NewEnergy - in 1997, and has been active in the competitive energy markets since their inception. He has served in a number of positions, including Director of Customer Care and Director of Operations.
Before joining Constellation, he worked for the International Institute for Energy Conservation in Chile as Program Manager, developing energy efficiency programs for the EPA’s Green Lights Initiative. Earlier in his career, he held senior positions as a consultant and researcher for several Boston area energy consulting companies, where he was involved in analysis concerning the macro-level potential of energy efficiency and the employment and economic impacts of energy efficiency investments.
His experience has led him to contribute to energy related articles in Boston Business Journal Mass High Tech and online industry publications.
Mr. Kelly-Detwiler earned a bachelor’s of arts degree from Williams College and a master’s degree from Tufts University’s Fletcher School. He is fluent in English, Spanish and German. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member on the Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business MBA Fellows Program.

George has been with the Somfy Group for 17 years. Headquartered in France, with 60 business units worldwide, Somfy is the world leader in electric drives and control systems for dynamic window treatments and building openings. During his term, George has been the Sales Manager in Canada, Marketing Director for North America and Commercial Business Development Manager for NA. He currently manages the new Commercial Specifications business unit based in Toronto.
George's activities have taken him throughout the world with Somfy. He has been involved in numerous projects with International window treatment specialists, lighting and building automation firms.George has been a member of CABA (Continental Automated Building Association) since 1995 and participates in the IIBC (Intelligent & Integrated Bldg Committee) of CABA.
George has a Commerce degree from Concordia University in Montreal and continues to work with their Building Sciences faculty in the research of leading edge lighting/window treatment control systems. He also is active in the Canadian Solar Research network and the Net-Zero Energy initiative for new homes.

Daniel Trevino

Daniel is a lighting control professional with experience in lighting design, product development and lighting sales. Most recently he is working to develop new energy saving controls.
Mr. Trevino holds a BS in Architecture from Instituto Tecnologico Estudios Superiores de Monterrey in Mexico, a Master of Science in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City and is working toward an MBA. He is currently the Daylighting Product Manager for Watt Stopper/Legrand, based in Santa Clara, CA. Here, he is responsible for developing and bringing to market new technologies in daylighting controls. He is currently working with the California Lighting Technology Center to design and test new daylighting harvesting technologies, including a low cost self commission daylighting photosensor.
Recently, he has given a number of presentations on daylighting topics for audiences at Lightfair, BACnet Building Automation and Sustainability Conference, the Sustainable Building Industry Council as well as Watt Stopper/Legrand-sponsored events, including the Lighting Control Solution for Daylit Spaces online Webinar.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Trevino worked as a district sales manager where he helped to build specifications in projects located all across Northern Mexico and as a lighting designer in the East Coast where he was involved in the design of projects which included bridges, monuments, museum exhibitions and a variety of commercial buildings.
He is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

Ron Wilkinson authored the first USGBC LEED Cx training program and is a regular speaker at the National Conference on Building Commissioning.
On the HPAC editorial board, he has published in HPAC, ASHRAE journal and others. He earned his BSMAE at the Illinois Institute of Technology
in 1971 and his MPA from The Evergreen State College in 1985. He is currently with AKF Engineers, LLC, commissioning buildings in New York City.

an Open System path. For the past 5 years, Patrick has worked with

Ron Zimmer, President & CEO of the Continental Automated Buildings Association (CABA), is committed to achieving the organization’s vision:

Mr. Zimmer joined CABA in 1997 working with industry leaders who promote integrated systems and home/building automation throughout the world. CABA’s members include manufacturers, dealers, installers, service providers, energy utilities, builders, consultants, research organizations, publishers, educational institutions, governments, associations and content providers.
In addition to working closely with the CABA Board of Directors, Ron is actively involved with a number of industry Committees/Councils including the CABA Intelligent & Integrated Buildings Council, CABA Connected Home Council, Intelligent Buildings Leadership Forum Advisory Board, Building Intelligence Quotient Advisory Board and Life-Cycle Costs Analysis Advisory Board.
He was instrumental in establishing the CABA XML and Web Services Committee (oBIX), which now resides with OASIS. He was also on the transition team that integrated the Internet Home Alliance into CABA, creating the Internet Home Alliance Research Council, effective July 1, 2006.
Ron is a Certified Association Executive with over 25 years of Association Management experience. He has authored a number of articles and documents including, “Smart Communities: A Concept Paper,” and he regularly makes presentations on integrated buildings and home/building automation at industry events.
